With Tony DiMarco - The Big Ragu
This show is an exploration of the Grateful Dead, starting with their musical roots in bluegrass, the influential sounds of classical jazz, their trippy psychedelic themes, and their absorption of folk and other sounds. Because the Dead have defied conventional genre labels, I will also highlight their influence on artists across the spectrum of musical genres. Each week will feature a new theme based on historical and calendar events, or based on listener requests, or just because I want to share something special from the Grateful Dead archives.
Most of the music I play will be from the vast collection of songs performed by the Grateful Dead, including many live performances. But occasionally I will drop in historically important artists who are part of the Grateful Dead ecosphere of music, ranging from artists who have covered the Grateful Dead to many who were covered by the Dead, from Henry Thomas of the 1920s, to Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie and others. You might even hear some impressive cover bands who have applied their own influence on the music.
Let me know what you think!

Last week my childhood friend Mark Mickiewicz passed away. This is a tribute to Mick with a show that we saw together. Jerry Garcia Band at the Charger Gymnasium at the University of New Haven. A small venue. An amazing show and a lasting memory. RIP Mick.
