Chris Noel - An American Hero
EVAN GERSHKOVICH - DAY 392
Today is a Safe & Sound special broadcast touting the extraordinary service of Chris Noel during the Vietnam War, and supporting that she be nominated for the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The interview portion of this program is a rebroadcast of The Mike Bates Show from WPNN (103.7 FM and 790 AM) in Pensacola, Florida - www.TheMikeBatesShow.com. The interview with Chris Noel was recorded on March 13, 2024 in West Palm Beach.
If you're a Vietnam-era veteran, you know the name Chris Noel - The Voice of Amed Forces Radio from 1966-1971. Chris Noel ultimately sacrificed her Hollywood acting carreer to serve our country by entertaining and supporting our troops on the airwaves and in person where they served - in the air, on land, and at sea. In addition to boosting morale via her nightly radio music show, she made several tours to Vietnam where she helicoptered into firebases. At times, she came under enemy fire and once crash landed (due to mechanical failure) in enemy territory. Chris Noel risked her life to bring a warm smile,or hug from home, comfort the wounded in field hospitals, and encourage the troops. Despite what the troops were hearing in the news from home, she assured them that they were loved, supported, and, most importantly, not forgotten. Chris Noel has dedicated her life to our veterans, including founding Vetsville Cease Fire House shelters for homeless vets in Florida. Vetsville has been in operation since 1993 and has provided nearly 100,000 days of sanctuary for veterans.
There is a campaign underway to urge the President of United States to award Chris Noel with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. To find out more and sign the petition, visit www.honorchrisnoel.com.
