Plaid, the infamous fabric, is a pattern of intersections. Lines meet and create square spaces: across a school uniform jumper, maybe, or a treasured pair of vintage flannel pants. This show, this space, is defined by the intersection between poetry & music. I'll explore the lyrical richness of the texts and sounds that surround us in a dynamic conversation between written word and sung sound. By reading a poem and following it with its aural counterparts, each show will be a curated microcosm built around a specific feeling, moment, or idea. Perhaps we delve together into the murky, mysterious darkness of late-night existentialism or playing on your elementary school playground long after kindergarten. I hope to bring in student poets to share their work and highlight envelope-pushing artists. It's a natural pairing: singers are often poets and poets, singers. Join me on a quick walk down sonic sidewalks where Gwendolyn Brooks daps up Digable Planets, and Ross Gay whispers beautiful grief and riotous joy to Sufjan Stevens. In short, word meets music in this coffee house-like space.
